As registered nurses, SUN members know how important it is to have access to proper nutrition. This year, the Program Committee is supporting food banks across Saskatchewan. To learn more about food insecurity in our province, the Program Committee invited a representative from Food Banks of Saskatchewan to join their meeting on January 17.
The Committee learned all about the challenges food banks are facing this year, including the rising cost of food, a growing number of food bank clients, and a decline in donors. The Committee is so grateful for the opportunity to understand the program.
Feed the Bank
The Program Committee’s project for Annual Meeting is “Feed the Bank,” featuring Pockets the Piggy Bank.
During the meeting, members can choose to donate spare change and cash to Pockets for a donation to the Saskatoon Food Bank. There will also be the opportunity to donate food products at the doors. We can make a substantial difference for people living in the community that is so graciously hosting us!

Did you know that food bank usage increased by 37 percent in 2022?
Did you know that 40 per cent of food bank clients in Saskatchewan in 2022 were children? That’s a seven per cent increase from the year before.
